Big
Jim on a session 1960. This was a Jack Good Session at IBC studios
Lower Regent Street.

I am sitting at the back of the orchestra and am taking the photo. Standing
on the left at the front is the 'Main Man'. This man did all the booking for
sessions from before I started session to 1986 or thereabout. He is the one
and only Charlie Katz. He booked you on a session and God help you if you were
late. I remember a time when he booked me for 3 session on this particular day.
The 1st started at 10.00 am until 01.00pm. The 2nd was from 02.30pm until 05.30pm.
The 3rd was from 07.30pm until 10.30pm. Anyway the 2nd session only needed the
rhythm section for 2 hours so we finished at 04.30 pm. so I went home. I returned
to the studio at 07.15pm thinking that I would be 15 minutes early only to find
that Charlie had decided to start the session at 07.00pm. I was 15 minutes late,
not on purpose but because he had changed it. I got the biggest rollicking I
have ever had in my life in front of this large orchestra. He blamed me me not
for being late but for being so presumptuous as not to check on the time. He
made me feel so bad that I was never late again under the same circumstances.
I think I was only late about 4 times in the whole of my session career and
the causes for this lateness had very good exudes for them. You know car crashes
and earthquakes and so on.
