LD_VM_US.jpg (6733 bytes)I worked with Lonnie Donegan and Van Morrison a short while ago. Here is a photo of the two stars, my wife and myself. Lonnie was a great influence on me when I started the guitar and I had never worked with him until now. We have been friends for years and his guitarist in the 50's had as much influence on me as any of the American players. His name was Denny Wright, Denny was from the old Django school and he used to swing like nobody else. Swing guitar is a lot different to rock guitar and it is unusual to find someone able to do both. It is only the influence from guys like Denny and Django that I learned swing guitar. As for Vam Morrison I think he is one of the great talents on the British song writing scene. I had never worked with him before and I might say that I hope never to work with him again. No matter how popular with the public a human being becomes he should treat his co-workers with respect. After all the musicians who back up the stars add as much to the stars success as the stars themselves do. I am not an egoist but I do like to be acknowledged when I speak to one of my fellow human beings. This man totally ignored me for the 3 days I played with him. Still good luck Van I know that everybody can't get on with everybody and perhaps our relationship didn't get a chance to develop. Don't call me! We can't win all the time.
