These two photos show how the Wildcats were at home with Eddie on and
off the stage. He had a great influence on us guys. Although he was only 21
himself we looked up to him as a guide. That he was to all of us. We somehow
put aside the way he drank and just followed his abilities on his instruments.
He played drums, piano, bass, guitar and
probably other instruments.
He used to amaze us with his dexterity both in country and blues. I don't
remember him ever showing an interest in jazz. The Wildcats used to be
into jazz and we used to get to the theatres early to set our instruments up
and practice for an hour or two before we had to rehearse the show. He used
to let me play his Burning 'G' Gretch, I am playing it in the photo. The Cigarette
in the mouth wasn't part of the learning process, I started very young. The
only recordings I know of with Eddie and the Wildcats are the Saturday Club
recordings we did with Him and Gene Vincent in 1960.
I have included a couple of the live recordings in this page
