Colin was at the audition when I auditioned for Marty in 1958.
I think he was about 14 years old. He played very well but you could tell he
was young. I was about 17 and had been playing since I was 14. I knew a lot
of solo's like James Burton and Cliff Gallop, Frannie Becher, Scotty Moore and
so on. The thing is I never quoted a solo note for note. I always put my own
things into the solo. Colin leant very fast and he was soon to be the guitarist
with Billy Fury's Blue Flames. From there he went on to play with 'Nero and
the Gladiators'. (The photo on the left shows Colin & Criss Gillies

Flames and he started to do studio work as well. He and I always had a mutual
respect for each other because we both were formostly musicians and not stars.
Colin recently was Shirley Bassey's musical director. He travels the world with
her conducting and arranging the orchestras
